Our Unexpected Dinner at Double Knot Delray Beach ๐๐ธ
A cancelled birthday dinner, a closed restaurant, one lost swordfish dream, and an unexpected night at Double Knot Delray Beachโwith great food, good service, and way too many flies. ๐
When Dinner Plans Go Completely Off the Rails ๐๐ธ๐
Last night, Ted and I had dinner plans at Jimmyโs in Delray Beach to celebrate a friendโs 75th birthday. ๐๐ฅ
Sounds simple, right?
Cute dinner. Birthday celebration. Maybe a glass of wine. Definitely some good food.
Wellโฆ apparently the universe had other plans. ๐
As our reservation time got closer, our friend texted Ted a photo of an air-conditioning unit leaking water. ๐ฆ๐ฉ They were waiting for an emergency HVAC repair, and with the timing getting way too close to dinner, they decided to take a raincheck.
Totally understandable.
Ted and I looked at each other and basically said, โWell, weโre already mentally committed to dinner.โ ๐
So we decided to go anyway and turn it into a little date night for the two of us. โค๏ธ๐ท
We left the office around 6:00 P.M. for our 6:30 reservation, thinking we had plenty of time to find some free parking.
And yes, I said free parking.
Because if Delray Beach wants me to spend money on cocktails, dinner, dessert, and probably something I absolutely do not need afterward, I would at least like to save a few dollars on parking. ๐๐
Shockingly, we found a free street parking spot about a block away.
Victory! ๐
As we walked toward the restaurant, Ted and I were already discussing who would go back to get the car after dinner.
How romantic. ๐
Nothing says date night like strategic vehicle retrieval.
Then we crossed the little alley near Swinton Avenueโฆ
โฆand saw the sign.
Jimmyโs was closed for the evening because of a gas leak.
Excuse me?! ๐ญ
At that point, I was emotionally devastated.
Not because our plans had changed twice.
No.
Because I had been thinking about the swordfish. ๐๐
I had already ordered it in my head.
I had emotionally bonded with that swordfish.
I was practically tasting it.
And now?
Gone.
Just like that.
RIP, imaginary swordfish. ๐๏ธ๐
So, there we stood in Delray Beach, dressed for dinner, hungry, slightly annoyed, and now without a restaurant.
Thankfully, right across the street was the new Double Knot.
Problem solved. ๐ธโจ
It was still early; the bar was only about half full, and people were sitting outside enjoying the evening.
I convinced Ted that we should sit outdoors.
This decision would later becomeโฆ questionable. ๐๐ชฐ
We were seated at a table outside, and almost immediately our server complimented me on my outfit.
And she was not the first person to compliment it that evening. ๐โโ๏ธโจ
Naturally, I saw an opportunity.
I told her I have an Amazon affiliate storefront with some of my favorite outfits and pieces.
Because listenโฆ
If someone compliments the outfit, I am absolutely going to tell them where to find it. ๐๐๏ธ
I am trying to build this Amazon storefront, people!
A girl has goals. ๐ ๐ฒ๐ฐ
Our server was lovely. She brought us water, took our drink orders, and the service was very good overall.
Then the food arrived.
And that is when the evening turned into an episode of Survivor: Delray Beach Edition. ๐๐ชฐ๐ฝ๏ธ
Suddenlyโฆ
FLIES.
Not one.
Not two.
An entire extended family.
Maybe cousins.
Possibly grandparents.
I donโt know.
They clearly received the dinner invitation we did not send. ๐ญ๐
The food sat there, looking delicious, while I waved my left hand nonstop, like I was directing traffic at Palm Beach International Airport.
Ted is trying to eat.
I am trying to eat.
The flies are also apparently trying to eat.
Absolutely not. ๐
Eventually, I grabbed an extra plate and started covering some of the food.
Very elegant.
Very sophisticated.
Very fine dining. ๐ ๐
โWould you like another cocktail?โ
โYes, and perhaps a mosquito net for the table.โ ๐ธ๐ชฐ
To be fair, the staff seemed aware of the problem, and I really hope they find a solution, because the food itself was very good.
The service was also good, and the outdoor atmosphere was beautiful before the flies decided to crash the party.
We are also not fully into season yet, so Iโm curious to see how things go once Delray gets busier.
Because the season in South Florida is its own sport. ๐๐ด
More people.
More traffic.
More reservations.
More valet stands.
More people pretending theyโre not annoyed about waiting 35 minutes for a table. ๐๐ท
Overall, though?
I would absolutely go back to Double Knot.
Good food. โ
Good service. โ
Great atmosphere. โ
Unexpected fly cardio for my left arm. โ
๐
Next time, however, I may sit inside.
Lesson learned. ๐
And poor Jimmyโs?
Weโll be back.
That swordfish and I still have unfinished business. ๐๐๐ท
Until next time, Delray. You certainly know how to keep dinner interesting. ๐๐ดโจ
