Traveling Through Menopause: What I’ve Learned

Traveling through menopause has changed how I pack, rest, hydrate, and handle the unexpected. I’m sharing what I’ve learned about staying comfortable, flexible, and still enjoying the adventure.

Traveling during menopause has taught me that the adventure doesn’t stop — but the way I travel has definitely changed. I pay more attention to comfort, sleep, hydration, skincare, temperature swings, and yes, the occasional hot flash at the worst possible time. The good news? With a little preparation and a sense of humor, I still get to enjoy the places I love and keep exploring new ones.

Traveling through menopause has taught me that comfort matters more than trying to travel exactly the way I used to. Hot flashes, changes in sleep, energy levels, and even my skin can affect how I feel on a trip. However, none of that means I have to stop exploring. I’ve simply learned to travel a little differently.

Traveling Through Menopause: Comfort Comes First

One thing that helps me is packing with comfort in mind. I like lightweight clothing that I can layer, comfortable shoes, and a few skincare products that help me feel refreshed. I also keep water nearby and try not to pack every minute of the day with activities. Having some flexibility makes traveling much more enjoyable.

Sleep can also make a big difference. Therefore, I try to give myself time to rest instead of feeling like I have to see everything in one day. Some of my favorite travel moments happen when I slow down anyway—sitting at a cafĆ©, walking through a neighborhood, or discovering something I never planned to see.

I’ve also learned to listen to my body. If I need a break, I take one. If I’m hot, uncomfortable, or tired, I adjust my plans. At the same time, I don’t want menopause to become the reason I say no to experiences I genuinely want.

Traveling through menopause may require a little more preparation, but travel is still one of the things I enjoy most. For me, the goal isn’t perfect travel. It’s staying curious, being comfortable, and continuing to experience new places in a way that works for me now.
