Best Things to Do in Delray Beach: A Local’s Guide

Looking for the best things to do in Delray Beach? Here’s my local guide to beaches, Atlantic Avenue, attractions, food, nightlife, and more. 🌴🍹

Planning a trip to Delray Beach? As a local, I can tell you there’s a lot more to do here than sit on the beach — although I fully support doing absolutely nothing with a cocktail nearby. 😂🌴 From Atlantic Avenue and the beach to food tours, shopping, live music and a few of my personal favorites, here are some of the best things to do in Delray Beach.

🌊 1. Spend Some Time at Delray Beach

Delray Beach has a beautiful stretch of sand right along A1A, and sometimes the best plan is no plan at all. Take a morning walk, bring a beach chair, swim, people-watch, or just sit there wondering why you ever agreed to leave Florida. 😂☀️

I especially love the beach earlier in the day, before the sun gets too ambitious. And if you’re staying nearby, you can easily walk from the beach to Atlantic Avenue for lunch, shopping, or—because we’re being realistic—a cocktail. 🍹🌴

🛍️ 2. Stroll Atlantic Avenue

Atlantic Avenue is basically Delray Beach’s main runway — restaurants, boutiques, galleries, coffee shops, bars, and plenty of people-watching. 😂🌴 Start downtown and wander toward the ocean, stopping wherever looks interesting along the way.

This is one of those places where “we’re just going for a little walk” can somehow turn into shopping bags, appetizers, and a cocktail. 🍸🛍️ And that is exactly why I never make promises about how long I’ll be gone when I head to Atlantic Avenue.

🛥️ 3. Cruise the Intracoastal with Delray Yacht Cruises

One of my favorite ways to see Delray from a completely different angle is from the water. 🛥️🌴 Delray Yacht Cruises takes you along the Intracoastal, where you can relax, enjoy the views, and get a peek at some pretty impressive waterfront homes along the way.

During season, keep an eye out for their sunset and dinner cruise options too. There’s something about being on the water as the sun goes down that makes you forget about traffic, parking, and whatever you were supposed to be doing that day. 😂🥂🌅

🌴 4. Explore Pineapple Grove Arts District

Pineapple Grove is one of my favorite areas to wander when I want something a little more artsy and relaxed. 🎨🌴 Just off Atlantic Avenue, you’ll find colorful murals, galleries, boutiques, restaurants, and plenty of little spots that make you want to stop and look around.

It’s also a great place for photos — because apparently, if we didn’t take a picture in front of a mural, did we even go? 😂📸

🕹️ 5. Play at Silverball Retro Arcade

If you grew up playing pinball and arcade games, Silverball Retro Arcade is basically nostalgia with a side of competition. 😂🕹️ It’s packed with classic pinball machines and old-school arcade games, and it’s fun whether you’re with friends, your partner, or pretending you’re only playing “one more game.”

And yes, grown adults can become extremely competitive over pinball. I have witnessed things. 😂

🌺 6. Visit the Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens

Technically, Morikami is just west of Delray Beach, but it absolutely belongs on this list. 🌺 The gardens are gorgeous, peaceful, and perfect when you want a break from the beach, shopping, and cocktails. Yes, occasionally I do recommend activities that don’t involve cocktails. 😂

Take your time walking through the Japanese gardens, stop by the museum, and definitely bring your camera. It’s one of those places that makes you feel like you traveled much farther than a few minutes from Delray.

🐦 7. Walk the Wakodahatchee Wetlands

If you want to see a completely different side of South Florida, head to Wakodahatchee Wetlands, just west of downtown Delray. 🌴🐦 The boardwalk takes you right through the wetlands, where you can spot birds, turtles, iguanas, and plenty of other Florida wildlife.

It’s peaceful, easy to walk, and free — which is especially nice after you’ve spent half your vacation budget eating and drinking on Atlantic Avenue. 😂🍸

🌊 8. Visit Sandoway Discovery Center

Right across from the beach, Sandoway Discovery Center is a fun little stop if you’re curious about South Florida’s marine life. 🦈🐚 It’s housed in a historic beachfront home and is especially fun when you want to do something besides bake in the Florida sun. 😂

It’s an easy activity to combine with a beach day or a stroll along Atlantic Avenue, so you don’t have to turn it into a whole production. And at this stage of life, I strongly support activities that do not require a whole production. 😂💕

⛳ 9. Play a Round at PopStroke

Absolutely 😂 We can do the heading + description together from now on. Much faster. 💃

PopStroke takes mini golf and gives it a very Florida upgrade. ⛳🌴 The courses are designed for adults and kids, but you can also grab food and drinks and make an afternoon or evening out of it.

You definitely do not need to be a golfer to have fun here. In fact, I think a cocktail may improve my putting skills. At least that’s the excuse I’m going with. 😂🍹

🍷 10. Take a Delray Beach Food & Drinks Tour

If you’re visiting Delray Beach for the first time, a food and drinks tour is a fun way to experience downtown without having to figure everything out yourself. You can sample local spots, learn a little about the area, and—most importantly—someone else is in charge of deciding where you’re going next. 😂🍷

🎶 11. Enjoy Live Music & Delray Beach Nightlife

Delray Beach definitely does not roll up the sidewalks after dinner. 😂🎶 Atlantic Avenue and the surrounding downtown area have plenty of places for live music, cocktails, dancing, and those nights when you say, “We’ll just have one drink,” and suddenly it’s midnight. 🍸💃

Some of my favorite spots include Johnnie Brown’s, Tin Roof, Good Night John Boy, and Bounce. The vibe can change depending on the night, so I always recommend wandering around downtown and seeing where the music — and your girlfriends — take you. 😂

🍽️ 12. Eat Your Way Through Delray Beach

You could come to Delray Beach just to eat and I would completely support that decision. 😂🍽️ From little local favorites to Italian restaurants, waterfront dining, brunch, happy hour, and places where dinner somehow turns into a night out, there is no shortage of choices.

I’ve already done the hard work — meaning eating and drinking my way around town 😂🍷 — so instead of making this section ridiculously long, check out my full local restaurant guide.

🛍️ 13. Shop Local Boutiques & Galleries

Delray Beach is dangerous if you enjoy saying, “I’m just going to look.” 😂🛍️ Between Atlantic Avenue and Pineapple Grove, you’ll find boutiques, galleries, gifts, jewelry, home décor, and plenty of things you absolutely did not know you needed until five minutes ago.

I love mixing a little shopping into a day downtown because everything is so walkable. Browse for a while, stop for coffee or lunch, then continue shopping. Or replace coffee with wine. I’m not here to judge. 😂🍷

🏨 14. Make a Day of Delray’s Beachfront Hotels

You don’t have to be staying at one of Delray Beach’s hotels to enjoy a little vacation energy. 🌴🍹 Stop for a drink, have lunch, book some spa time, or simply enjoy the atmosphere around the beach.

And if you are planning to stay overnight, I already have a full guide to help you decide where to sleep after all this eating, drinking, shopping, and sightseeing. 😂

🎭 15. Check Out What’s Happening While You’re in Town

There always seems to be something happening around Delray Beach — festivals, art shows, holiday celebrations, parades, food events, and other excuses for us locals to head downtown. 😂🎉

Instead of listing every event here, I put together a separate guide to the big annual events and traditions so you can see what might be happening during your visit.

☕ 16. Slow Down and People-Watch Like a Local

Not every Delray Beach activity needs reservations, tickets, or an itinerary. Sometimes the best thing to do is grab a coffee, find a table along Atlantic Avenue, and watch the world go by. ☕🌴

Delray is excellent for people-watching — locals walking dogs, visitors heading to the beach, girlfriends shopping, and somebody inevitably wearing an outfit that makes you wonder if you’ve been dressing wrong your entire life. 😂

Give yourself some time to wander without a schedule. Some of my favorite Delray days are the ones where I had absolutely no plan.

💕 17. Plan a Girls’ Weekend in Delray Beach

Delray Beach is made for a girls’ getaway. 🌴💃 You’ve got the beach, great restaurants, cocktails, shopping, spa time, and plenty of places to go out when everyone suddenly decides they’re 25 again. 😂🍸

I put together an entire girls’ weekend itinerary with my picks for where to stay, eat, drink, shop, relax, and have fun — so you don’t have to plan the whole thing from scratch.

🌅 18. Catch a Delray Beach Sunrise

I know, I know. Getting up early on vacation sounds suspiciously like work. 😂☕ But if you’re awake anyway — hello, menopause sleep schedule 👋 — head to the beach and watch the sunrise over the Atlantic.

The early morning is one of my favorite times in Delray Beach. It’s quieter, cooler, and absolutely beautiful. Walk along the sand, grab a coffee afterward, and enjoy feeling extremely accomplished before most people have even found their sunglasses. 😂🌅

And yes, you have my permission to take a nap later. We’re over 50. We’ve earned it. 💅😂

🚲 19. Rent a Bike and Explore Delray

Delray Beach is fun to explore on two wheels, especially around the beach and downtown. 🚲🌴 Rent a bike, cruise along A1A, wander through the neighborhoods near the ocean, or make your way downtown when you’re ready for a snack — which, in my case, will probably be about 15 minutes later. 😂

Just remember: Florida sunshine is no joke. Bring water, sunscreen, and perhaps don’t choose noon in August for your Tour de Delray. 😂☀️

🌴 20. Do Absolutely Nothing for a While

Yes, I am officially putting “doing nothing ” on a list of things to do. 😂 You’re in Delray Beach — you do not need to spend every minute running from one attraction to another.

Grab a beach chair, sit by the pool, order something cold, read a book, or simply enjoy the fact that nobody needs anything from you for the next hour. 🍹📖

Travel after 50 has taught me something very important: resting is part of the itinerary. And I refuse to feel guilty about it. 💅😂

💕 Final Thoughts: The Best Things to Do in Delray Beach

Delray Beach is one of those places where you can make your trip as busy — or as lazy — as you want. Spend the morning at the beach, wander Atlantic Avenue, explore somewhere new, eat somewhere fabulous, have a cocktail, and then wonder how it suddenly became bedtime. 😂🌴🍹

And because I actually live here, this guide will keep growing as I discover new places worth sharing. I’ll tell you what I love, what I’d skip, and what’s actually worth your vacation time and money.

Most importantly, don’t try to do everything. Pick a few things that sound fun, leave room for spontaneity, and enjoy Delray the way we locals do.

See you around town. 💕🌴
